Not long started on my urban sketching journey and wanted a book to be able to refer to and learn from. This book is just the ticket . I’ve only had it a week so I’m taking my time to read very word and digest and practice. I would def recommend this to friends who are new to this subject or are indeed more accomplished as it suits both.

As a complete beginner to urban sketching, this book is an absolute gem. Not only does it break down key concepts and styles in an approachable manner, it’s beautiful to look at and is inspiring just on its own. But it gets better. There are suggestions of exercises to do, techniques to try and so much encouragement to just get started. Do NOT hesitate to purchase this book if you’re looking for guidance, teaching and something gorgeous to look at. I have read it sequentially and devoured the contents on every page. I will be returning to it again and again over the coming months as I try new things. The pages of the book feel lovely too and are semi-glossy. My ONLY criticism (which has nothing to do with the book contents itself) is that I wish it was offered as a paperback with a spiral binding, so that it can lay flat and/or so you can have it turned to one side only if you’re trying to work on technique shown or using it as inspiration. Thank you, Taria, for such an uplifting and approachable book to urban sketching. You were diligent in presenting multiple styles throughout the book and encouraged readers to experiment and find their own style as well. Highly, highly recommend.

Absolutely adore this book. Taria shows many sketches, explains techniques and also shows some color mixing combinations. Very glad I purchased this book ! Truly worth every penny !

Tutto quello che dovete sapere sullo sketching! Perfetto per chi vuole approcciarsi allo sketching o al disegno. L’obiettivo non è disegnare in modo perfetto la realtà ma avere una propria visione/stile. Si comincia con oggetti semplici, fino a scene più complesse fino ai diari di viaggio. Alla fine di ogni capitolo trovi spunti per esercitarti e anche un esercizio guidato (in modo da capire che tipo di domande bisogna farsi). Spiega in modo semplice e disegni non pretenziosi come approcciarsi allo sketching. Ti fa sentire in grado di disegnare qualunque cosa poco alla volta. Spiega come bisogna pensare lo sketching e da tutte le tecniche e i trucchi per riuscire a farlo! Magnifico. Se dovessi scegliere un unico libro per imparare a fare schizzi sceglierei questo.

I looked for a book about urban sketching to try it myself. With this book I was not disappointed. It has lots of information and is well written. Taria talks about all the important things, e.g. materials, perspective, composition and watercolour techniques followed by different scenarios where and how to sketch. She explains really well and I learned a lot. I can wholeheartedly recommend this wonderful book!
